The AlphaTheta CDJ-1500X compact DJ multi player expands the CDJ range with a powerful build that meets the same standards as the flagship CDJ-3000X – right down to the same 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Since the discontinuation of the CDJ-900NXS, the range has consisted of just the flagship player – first the CDJ-3000, then the 3000X. AlphaTheta created the CDJ-1500X to give smaller venues the flexibility of a single player while still handing DJs everything they need to perform. A few clever design choices show a real understanding of the difference between a festival stage and a bar, where the crowd can get far closer to the DJ – and to the kit providing the sound for the night. Recessed cable connections at the rear and USB ports on the front help protect against accidental disconnection when an excitable member of the dancefloor pays the booth a visit. The new CoBeat service goes further, letting DJs invite the crowd to shape the set without crowding the booth – a unification of DJ and dancefloor, driven by technology. Patrons simply scan a QR code and request from a pre-selected list of tracks – no more hassling the DJ mid-mix. Thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity, those requests appear right on screen for the DJ to action.

Second-tier CDJs have historically come with real spec compromises – often it's been the large jog wheel alone that brought the smaller sibling anywhere near the flagship. With the CDJ-1500X, AlphaTheta has taken a different route: the huge touchscreen from the CDJ-3000X dominates the player, and the GUI has been carefully reworked to deliver a full feature set while allowing some physical controls to be removed – essential given the 1500X's smaller footprint. The beat loop knob, first seen on the Opus-Quad, returns – backed by loop in/out on the touchscreen if that's one of the customisation options you choose. For symmetry and a familiar navigation feel, the data encoder sits opposite, just above the full-size pitch fader. Additional pitch controls such as master tempo and pitch range now live within the touchscreen; again, decluttering the top plate hasn't sacrificed control – just relocated it.

The CDJ-1500X also inherits the cloud connectivity built into the CDJ-3000X, including access to your entire online library with a single tap of your phone via built-in NFC. Once your accounts are linked to your AlphaTheta account, your phone is all you need to bring to the gig alongside your headphones.

As is often the case with a new release, the CDJ-1500X has a few tricks up its sleeve. The main waveform now marks the position of vocals and BPM change points, giving a clear visual cue for upcoming shifts in the track – ones the DJ needs to see coming, or might choose to play with.

    manufacturer warranty.
  • Items that are faulty within thirty days of receipt are
    considered Dead on Arrival or Faulty out of Box. For these returns, we will arrange for the goods to be collected so that they can be returned free of
    charge.
  • Items that display a fault after the thirty-day period are covered under manufacturer’s warranty. During the first six months of ownership, we’ll collect any faulty items from you free of charge where convenient for you.
  • Outside of 6 months, the cost of return rests with the
    customer, if you’re struggling to ship a large item back to us, or if this is proving to be expensive please give us a call – we’ll arrange for DPD to collect the item for a fee.
  • Once warranty repairs are received back with us, we’ll perform a quick test to verify the issue to avoid no fault found fees. Next, we’ll arrange to send the faulty goods to the manufacturer to be repaired. This process normally takes around two to four weeks; however, we cannot provide a guaranteed timeframe.
