The AlphaTheta CDJ-3000X professional DJ multi player continues the legacy of the industry standard CDJ product line, using technological progression to enhance workflow, performance, connectivity and sound quality to create the next generation of booth ready decks.

As is often the case with the next generation of CDJ, the CDJ-3000X is probably best broken down into the visual and tactile improvements, and then the technology that is driving the enhancements.

The Design.

If you’re coming to the X from a previous CDJ, the first big thing is the screen – now a huge 10.1 inch multi-touch beauty which can display all of your rekordbox track and library information. Design wise, this is the most stripped back CDJ top plate we’ve seen in terms of silk-screen printing – and this makes sense when you consider that everything is just where DJs expect it to be. The lineage that drove this subtle, yet bold, change has been an integral part of the DJ booth for over 20 years now – when you touch down in front of the crowd, you’ll know your way around the CDJ-3000X instinctively!

AlphaTheta has enhanced the feel of the jog-wheel further, improving accuracy across all of the newly titled “Jog Feel” settings. Jog Feel certainly fits better than Jog Adjust – you can definitely feel the change to platter performance as you dial in a setting that suits your playing style.

A number of the LED rings around buttons and encoders have now changed to multi-colour to provide better visual feedback. The Cue button is one example of this update, which helps when using the new “Smart Cue” feature to overwrite the Cue point with a Hot Cue. When navigating, the LED ring around the browse pot changes colour to indicate which source is selected.

On the subject of sources, the 3000X features USB A and C ports and has built-in Wi-Fi. You can now login to your cloud based services using the Single Sign On to your AlphaTheta account, which is made even easier by the inclusion of the NFC (Near Field Communication) reader at the front of the unit. As long as you have the Rekordbox App installed, and you’re signed in, you can simply tap your phone on the front of the unit to gain access.

The Tech.

This leads us onto the tech changes, with the addition of NFC and Wi-Fi being just the tip of the iceberg. Everything the CDJ-3000X does feels snappier than the CDJ-3000 it replaces. When the original 3000 launched in 2020 its multi-processor approach was something of a seismic shift for the CDJ platform – now the X makes use of both chip enhancements and the refinement to firmware code that working with a platform for over 5 years brings.

Sound quality remains at the forefront of AlphaTheta’s research and development across all product releases and the CDJ-3000X is no exception. Utilising a new ESS Technology digital to analog converter, in conjunction with further power supply improvements, the X delivers a better signal to noise ratio and warmer, more rounded low-end sound than the outgoing model.

The inclusion of a eMMC (Embedded Multi Media Card) chip rounds out the new tech under the hood of the X. This 32GB card provides approximately 16GB of available storage for downloading tracks from cloud media and streaming services using the “PreDownload” feature within Taglist – which leads us nicely onto…

The Workflow.

Sometimes, it’s the seemingly smallest changes that can have the biggest impact on workflow improvements, and the CDJ-3000X is a great example of this. Taken in isolation, any of the workflow changes are nice to have – but combined into one unit the impact is huge.

Whether you’re copying and pasting artist or track names from within the browser to ease searching, hiding track names (no need to worry about mixdown 6 hi-hats up as a filename now/gatekeeping that new producer you’ve discovered), editing playlists on the device, adding playlists to the playlist bank or using the Global Tag List in conjunction with the Pre-Download – everything you do on the X feels easier!

In addition, the overhaul to the Cue system makes using the CDJ-3000X feel so much more intuitive than the previous iterations of this fundamental process. You can now use Preview Hot Cue to add a Hot Cue wherever you are previewing the audio/waveform using Touch Cue. Gate Cue allows users to trigger audio only while the Hot Cue is pressed and we’ve already touched on the Smart Cue feature.

The Reliability.

As a next generation, booth ready, deck, the CDJ-3000X needs to be robust. The new Play and Cue buttons have been designed to last twice as long as the CDJ-3000. This is a significant improvement and should see the buttons able to withstand over 500,000 presses. The aluminium top plate and metal chassis ensure that the X is ready for life in the booth and on the road.

From launch, the CDJ-3000X will be compatible with Rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro, with support for Algoriddim Djay Pro being added in October 2025.

The main features of the AlphaTheta CDJ-3000X include:

  • 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen
  • Expanded cloud and streaming service compatibility
  • Built-in Wi-Fi for wireless internet access
  • Single sign-on with NFC and QR code
  • Pre-download feature for cloud and streaming tracks
