Denon DJ PRIME 4 G2 All-In-One DJ System
The Denon DJ Prime 4 G2 standalone DJ system unifies your digital music sources while offering unrivalled processing power, so you'll never need to DJ with your laptop again.
With Omnisource, each of the four channels can play back from the widest range of digital sources available: stream from the cloud, mix from a drive connected to the Prime 4 G2, or run Serato DJ* from a connected laptop.
Standalone STEMS are processed with ease. Simply slide the track you want to separate into the STEMS queue and the Prime 4 G2 will unmix it into acapella, instrument, drum and bass parts. Each deck has dedicated acapella and instrument buttons, which double as a visual indicator that the track you're playing has been split in the background. You also get the usual STEMS pad modes plus a STEMS EQ for rebalancing a mix, which is particularly useful for mashups. Each jogwheel carries four visual STEMS indicators that flash red if you clip a stem in EQ mode. In our testing, 85% of the tracks we split on the unit were usable in a DJ set - comparable to the results we've seen from Mac and PC software.
An 8-core ARM processor powers the Prime 4 G2, delivering track analysis so fast that if you blink, you'll miss it. This isn't just radio edits either: loading a full-length club mix that hasn't been analysed in Engine DJ takes barely any longer. It really does feel like we've reached the point where DJs can drop new tracks onto a drive and mix without investing time in library management.
That processing headroom also unlocks a stack of features, including the extensive FX section, onboard SoundSwitch powered Engine Lighting control and multi-zone output. You can even load a playlist and send it to an independent output. Building on the legacy of the original Prime 4, and with exceptional sound quality throughout, this unit is equally at home in your bedroom, a club or a private party.
Processing power is only half the story, though, because the Prime 4 G2 isn't just powerful - it's built to an exceptionally high standard. The first time we lifted one out of the box, we realised this is a genuine evolutionary upgrade.
The full-size jogwheels catch your eye immediately, with perfect weighting for both mixing and scratching. The full-size pitch faders feel superb, and the mixer channels and crossfader are all well-weighted and reassuringly sturdy. The same applies to every part of the unit: the FX paddles are solid, and everything you touch feels like it will last a lifetime. The layout puts everything exactly where you expect it, very close to a club-standard setup. And then there are those rather special pads.
It's always good to save the best until last, and without doubt one of the most innovative features of the Prime 4 G2 is the set of MPC-style performance pads. The technology is borrowed from the latest generation of flagship Akai units: these are essentially X/Y pads, letting you move between the corners to morph between FX and settings. It's such a simple and seemingly obvious development, yet it unlocks a whole new sonic playground for creative DJs.
