The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 DJ controller offers beginners the perfect introduction to the world of battle-style mixing, without the expense of a set of turntables and mixer capable of scratch battle performance.
With a layout inherited from the flagship DDJ-REV7, the REV1 is designed to emulate a pair of PLX decks and DJM-S mixer battle-style. This layout shift has facilitated longer pitch faders (when compared to the DDJ-SB3) in the DDJ-REV1, this provides finer control when mixing. The size increases are not limited to the pitch faders, the REV1 has the largest platters of any entry-level DJ controller.
The layout rejig also moves the performance pads into the mixer section, just like the DJM-S mixers. The additional space around the mixer makes scratching easier, and the position of the performance pads eases transitions using the FX within Serato DJ lite. The inclusion of FX triggers increases the creative possibilities when using the REV1.
The art of scratching takes time to master, to help you along the way the DDJ-REV1 has Tracking Scratch. This new feature takes the track being scratched back to the cue point when you move the jog wheel backwards or remove your hand from the platter. This removes the need to use the crossfader and rewind back to the start of your scratch sound – select a scratch crossfader cuts pattern using relevant performance pad and manipulate the jog wheel.
If you’d prefer to trigger samples or tracks using the scratch bank (which was previously only available to Serato DJ Pro users) this is as simple as tapping the relevant performance pad. 3/4 deck control is available at the tap of the button and once the levels have been set, all 4 decks can be played back in the Serato DJ Lite software.
Social media plays a huge part in reaching your audience as a DJ. The DDJ-REV1 is ready to help you stream your sets to friends and social media followers. To help with audience interaction, you can easily talk over the tracks using a microphone connected to the controller. There’s no need for additional kit to handle the vocals – the audio signal is routed straight into your laptop and then broadcast via the stream.
