Paid plans (Core, Creative, Professional) add advanced features like DVS control, STEMS separation, video output, and cloud sync.

Both. For beginners, the Free plan provides everything you need to start organising your music and learning to DJ - especially if you have a Hardware Unlock-compatible controller. The interface is clean and well-documented, with official tutorials available. For experienced and touring DJs, the Professional plan with cloud sync, 5 TB storage, CloudDirectPlay, and 8-device support provides a smooth workflow. Rekordbox scales with your DJ career from first bedroom mix to headline festival set.

The biggest difference is ecosystem integration. Rekordbox is built by AlphaTheta (the company behind Pioneer DJ hardware), so it offers seamless, native integration with CDJs, XDJs, and the full Pioneer DJ line up - including USB export, which Serato doesn't support. Rekordbox also provides cloud library sync and mobile apps with full DJ performance. Serato tends to be favoured for scratch DJs and open-format performers.

When you import tracks, rekordbox analyses each one for BPM (tempo), musical key, waveform shape, beat grid alignment, and vocal positions. Cloud Analysis (available on all plans) can speed this process up by around 35%. The beat grid can be manually adjusted if the automatic detection isn't perfect - useful for tracks with tempo changes or live recordings. Accurate beat grids are essential for features like sync, quantised cue points, and smooth transitions between tracks.

Rekordbox runs on both Mac and Windows. For Mac, you'll need macOS 12 Monterey or later with an Intel or Apple Silicon processor. For Windows, you need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Both platforms require at least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended), a dual-core processor or better, and at least 2 GB of free disk space. Cloud Library Sync uses Dropbox to keep your rekordbox library - including tracks, playlists, cue points, beat grids, and metadata - synchronised across multiple devices. When you make changes on any device, they're uploaded to the cloud and reflected everywhere else. The Professional plan includes 5 TB of Dropbox storage and supports up to 8 synced devices. The Creative plan syncs up to 4 devices, and the Core plan up to 3. You can also use CloudDirectPlay to load cloud-stored tracks directly onto compatible Pioneer DJ equipment at venues, so you never have to carry USB drives again

Absolutely. Rekordbox works fully offline for music management, track analysis, and performance. You only need an internet connection for cloud-specific features like Cloud Library Sync, CloudDirectPlay, streaming music integration, and cloud-accelerated track analysis. Most DJs prepare their library at home (online or offline) and then export to USB for gigs, which requires no connectivity at all.

Hardware Unlock is a feature that activates rekordbox's Performance mode for free when you connect an eligible Pioneer DJ controller. This means you can DJ with the full software - including deck controls, effects, and mixing - without paying for a subscription. Plug a USB drive into your computer (formatted as FAT32 or HFS+ for Mac). In rekordbox, select the tracks or playlists you want to export, then drag them onto the USB device shown in the left panel - or right-click and choose "Export." Rekordbox writes the tracks along with all your metadata (cue points, beat grids, playlists, artwork) in a format that CDJs and XDJs read natively. At the club, just plug the USB into the player and you're ready to go

Yes. As of late 2025, the rekordbox mobile apps for iOS and Android support Spotify streaming. Apple Music integration was also added in 2025 for the desktop version. Additionally, Beatport Streaming and SoundCloud Go+ are supported on select platforms. Keep in mind that streamed tracks may have limitations (such as not being exportable to USB) - but they're perfect for practising, discovering new music, and performing with a connected controller.

STEMS is rekordbox's real-time track separation technology. It splits any track into four isolated parts - vocals, drums, bass, and instrumentals - on the fly. This lets you create live acapella blends, drop out the drums for a breakdown, isolate a bassline for transitions, or build creative mashups during your set using compatible hardware such as the DDJ-FLX10.
